Building a Personal Brand For Your Personal Training Business Using Social Media

Hi there, hope you are doing great!

I had to post this video, it's one of my all time favorites about the new social media landscape and how it is changing everything, including how small business become a huge success. YouTube Preview Image If you like the video, please click the "like" button above :-)

Are You Following Your Passion?

I love the part of the video where he says he became 1% unhappy with his business, & decided to change everything.  Not that everyone should hold themselves to SUCH a strict standard, but like Gary says, there are way to many people doing things they HATE! So if you hate personal training kids, don't do it at all! Hate group fitness, forget it! Don't like Kettlebells? Drop em! Can't stand stubborn baby boomer clients who don't actually value their health? Dump them all!  (Professionally of course, but the sooner the better.) In this day and age, you'll shine brightest when you LOVE what you are doing; cut out, outsource, and delegate everything else.  Otherwise, it will be hard to...

Get Your Hustle On!

That's right, there aren't any real short cuts, it does take hard work.  But when you love your clients and/or boot campers, it doesn't even feel like work, and their hard work, success, and support give you the continued inspiration and strength to keep hustling. I mean, of all the jobs out there, being a fitness professional is pretty freaking awesome.  Make money, change people's lives for the better, work for yourself and have freedom, and look good/be healthy doing it all.

Legacy is Greater Than Currency

This is definitely one of my favorite moment's in the video.  He asks "Do you realize your great great great grand kids are going to be watching your content online?" That's a pretty powerful perspective to even contemplate, but it can also be a source of inspiration to put yourself out there, do your best, and try and help people.  Because, as he says, listening to your customers/clients is cool, but actually giving a crap is WAY better!  (And way more profitable.).

The Power of Small Business

What does that mean for fitness professionals?  First, it means deliver awesome results & really give a damn about the people who pay you.  (This also means constantly reinvesting in continuing education, so you can get better and better.) And then second, it means once you are successful in the offline world, branching out and providing quality content to the online world. Remember, people buy into you FIRST, before they buy into your business, so be the face of your business and put yourself out there: offline first, then online and everywhere else.  But make sure you believe in your message, that it excites you, and that you can deliver some REAL value.

But...

I actually don't agree with the part of the video where Gary says "You need to be on all social media websites!"  That might be true for technology companies, but for personal trainers, you need to be on the social media sites where your clients are, which is really Facebook & Twitter.  Focus on those 2 and you will get the most bang for your effort. Until next time, keep your business fit. Johnny Fitness
