The Power of Fan Pages
Facebook fan pages allow you to build your online community, get feedback, create new revenue streams, and promote your business. (So if you are not using one, get on it!) I was able to build a fan page of over 900 people in about 4 months, using some tricks I learned online :-)
One of the coolest things a facebook fan page can do is be customized so that first time viewers of your fan page view a special page with an opt-in form. (An optin form is a field where they can put in their contact info, which they just might do if you offer them something cool in return!)

Doing this has allowed me to build my email list, which can then be used to provide updates, promote special offers, or distribute valuable content.

I am most excited about being notified when someone comments on a post. This allows you to stop waisting time checking your pages, and quickly react to comments and encourage interactivity on your page.
The more interactive people are on your page, the more valuable it is! A great way to encourage interactivity is to ask questions, instead of just posting stuff about your business all the time, this will get people to open up and provide you with info on how best to serve your community.
