I just watched this video, it's super inspiring so I had to share it.  It outlines the 5 key shifts happening in the digital marketing world, and there is a ton of stuff an ELITE fitness professional can learn from it.

  1. Successful companies are shifting from worrying about their image to sharing their reality. We are living in a "radical world of transparency", where you "can't hid anymore", so companies are shifting to spending money on being truthful & being good to connect with customers, instead of just spending money on their image and just LOOKING like they are good.

  2. The landscape is shifting from control to collaboration. The most savvy companies are making awesome content that people WANT to share, so that it goes viral & spreads their message for free.

  3. You can no longer buy attention, you have to earn it! I wish everyone would get on bored with this one, living in America you have all kinds of media screaming at you to get your attention all day long: tv commercials (that are louder than the program you are watching), radio commercials, billboards, magazine ads, and on and on.  None of that stuff works, or if it does, it converts at an extremely small percentage.  It's much cooler & more effective to have people wanting to pay attention to you and your message/product/service because you did something awesome or worth taking notice off.  You can't just through money at it, it requires more creativity & understanding your potential customers perspective.

  4. Who versus Where. 85% of searches online are location based.  The shotgun approach of trying to market to everyone everywhere is giving way to a more targeted, sniper like approach.

  5. Successful companies are shifting from PROFIT to PURPOSE. 86% of people say that business has to stand for something.  And David Jones, the brilliant dude in the video, predicts that very soon, people & companies who do the MOST good will get the MOST $!  How cool would that be?  Ho l Because right now, it seems like some pretty bad people make a ton of money. How many gyms are there out there that sell memberships hoping people don't show up?  A ton!  When will someone create a gym where members who work hard & get results will pay LESS than other members?  That would be really cool.

Look, I am not saying that all personal trainers should become professional Internet Marketers, far from it.  What I am saying is that all successful fitness professionals are already marketers/salesman; we don't have a salary we can rely on, we make sales and sell packages & bootcamps.  And the Social Revolution represents a unique opportunity, if we follow the example of these cutting edge companies, for us to reach out into the digital world and connect with more people, help more clients, and make a big difference.  Our work environment and fitness is pretty social to start with, so harnessing these concepts shouldn't be a problem at all.
