Hi, hope you are great! :-)
Last weekend was the Peak Training & Diet Design Seminar at Peak Performance. It was really awesome, and I looking forward to helping make this event even bigger and better next year. Even though I've been a trainer for 11 years now, I learned a bunch of stuff and made some great connections with other key people in the industry. I wanted to share a few of the things I learned and give you guys a sneak peak at what went down.
Comprehensive Yet Practical
The information Joe Dowdell & Dr. Mike Rousell presented was comprehensive, yet it was very well organized and easy to understand. There were a bunch of industry veteran's there, but I got to speak to a few of the trainers who were new to the industry, and they were very excited to put what they learned into action immediately on Monday. One of them said "I can't wait to design a new program for my clients!"
Here are just a few nuggets of info I got from the weekend:
- Have your client's plan reward meals! To quote Dr. Mike, "It's a reward meal, not a guilty unconscious behavior!"
- Joe, giving a warning before describing some of the advanced programs he uses like cluster training. "Never do a workout with a client unless you have done it on yourself first!"
- A new study has shown that 1 gram of fish oil per day can help prevent a heart attack in people who have already suffered from a heart attack
- Take a Pzizz! It's an app that has recording of specific sounds that help you take a nap & trigger specific brain waves while napping.
A Damn Good Time
Joe & Dr. Mike gave away a ton of stuff! Check out these pictures below of all the people who won free stuff.

Joe's Training Bible
The seminar outline for the weekend was a LARGE binder; it wasn't even an outline, more like a Encyclopedia containing all the program design sheets Joe uses with his clients. There are example programs in their, templates, stuff like that which you can use in your own personal training business immediately. Joe has 17 years experience and has studied with the very best in the industry. Just as important, he has studied with all different kinds of people at the top of the industry, he never stuck to just one perspective or ideology. This allows him to have a very WIDE perspective, so the program design templates he uses are very detailed, cutting edge, and comprehensive. This binder was worth the price of admission alone! It also gave example of program's Joe has written for his Olympic & Professional athletes, which was pretty cool too.
The Expert Pannel
The last day was really cool. One of my favorite things about this weekend was that the quality of trainers/strength coaches that this event attracted. There were several coaches there who have been training for 15 plus years and own success businesses, gyms, and websites. In the audience were people like John Romaniello, Kevin Neeld, Dr. Perry, James "Smitty" Smith, & Tony Gentilcore. Not to mention there were other key industry people in the audience, including an editor for "Men's Health".
These guys did a 1 hour Q & A panel that was just awesome. The questions were excellent and the answers were priceless: you can't beat learning from and networking with the top pros in the industry. If you came, leave a comment on what you thought! I hope to see you there next year. Until next time, keep your business fit. Johnny Fitness
